During this session, Julie St-Pierre and Kevin Page will provide an illuminating analysis of the most recent federal budget in order to shed light on its main measures and their repercussions on research and higher education. They will also discuss the issues involved in maintaining Canada’s academic sovereignty and on the importance of measures that seek to attract and retain top talent, which are essential to the vitality of Canada’s research ecosystem and competitiveness. Their complementary perspectives will surely generate an enriching and stimulating conversation on the challenges and opportunities that this federal budget presents for both academia and public decision-makers.

Professor St-Pierre teaches at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine. She is currently the Vice-President, Research and Innovation at the University of Ottawa.

Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy
Kevin Page is the founding president and CEO of the Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy (IFSD), University of Ottawa. He was Canada’s first Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO). He also teaches at the Max Bell School of Public Policy, McGill University.
