Mardochée Gédéon
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa warmly congratulates Mardochée Gédéon, recipient of the 2026 International Graduate Studies Thesis Award for his thesis entitled “Violence, Politics and Society: A Sociological Study of Armed Violence in Haiti.”

Awarded annually by the University of Ottawa, this distinction recognizes an outstanding thesis written in French by an international graduate student. Recipients are selected through a rigorous evaluation process based on faculty recommendations and the review of a university selection committee.

Through his research, Mardochée Gédéon makes a significant contribution to understanding the complex relationships between armed violence, political dynamics, and social realities in Haiti. His thesis demonstrates exceptional academic rigor and a strong commitment to examining issues of major social importance.

The award includes a $2,500 prize and recognizes both the excellence of his academic achievements and the impact of his research.
