Student using laptop in classroom setting
Access to personal network drive storage will cease this fall. Start transferring your data to OneDrive.

Starting this fall, the University of Ottawa will begin phasing out student personal network drives (H: drive), storage that is only accessible when you connect to the campus network. Students can instead take advantage of OneDrive, a secure, cloud-based storage for saving and sharing your University-related files.

What does this mean for students?

  • If you’ve ever used a campus computer lab or saved to a folder on the University network, you may have saved files on your personal H: drive.
  • Starting in May 2026, students will only have read-only access to their home drives to move and save their saved data
  • These drives will no longer be accessible starting this fall.
  • Make sure to migrate any files as soon as possible to avoid losing saved information.

Why OneDrive?

All active students have access to OneDrive storage, which lets you:

  • Access your files from anywhere, no campus network or VPN required
  • Work across multiple devices (laptop, tablet, phone)
  • Store more files in a secure cloud space with up to 50 GB of storage

Do I need to do anything right now?

This is a head’s up. Students that are directly impacted will be notified by email.

If you have a lot of saved data, migrating to OneDrive may take more time. Don’t wait until the last minute.
