Policies

• All Principal Investigators must decide before use of systems if they would like to become a member of the CBIA Core facility. For more information read about Membership,
• Infinity (Idea Elan) accounts for laboratories and their users must be created before scheduling training or being given access to systems. For this we require accurate and up-to-date contact information for all members of the lab including financial administrators and trainees. For more information about booking see Booking-Infinity.
• CBIA Core facility staff must train all users before being granted access to a new system.
  Users are not permitted to train any other users.
• Following training, users will be granted access for only the systems they have been trained on.
  Users may not book time on systems for others.
• Users must book the system  via the Infinity website, prior to use the equipment. NO walk-ins are permitted.  If you need to cancel your session please remove your reservation as soosn as possible. If the user keeps accumulating the "no-shows", its access will be suspended until a solution is found with the Principal Investigator.
• Users must strictly follow the startup and shutdown procedures for all instruments.
• Users must never use a gloved hand to manipulate any CBIA equipment or wear lab coats in microscope rooms.
• When finished, users must also clean up after themselves, and put everything back in place (immersion oil, ethanol, lens paper, stage adaptors etc.). Check the online booking calendar at the end of your session to determine if you are the last user of the day. Leave the microscope on for other users during normal working hours.
• The facility is not responsible for data stored on these hard drives. Any images left on the computer hard-drives may be deleted without warning. For more information, visit Data Management.
• NO USB memory sticks (flash drives) are allowed on CBIA Core facility computers (including workstations).
• Inform CBIA Core staff of any issues and report any damages encountered during your imaging session. Do not attempt to fix or alter microscopes in anyway unless you have been properly trained for this specific purpose.

Data can be temporarily stored on the hard drives of the microscope-associated computers, in a location designated for “CBIA Core Users”. However, these hard drives have limited space, and so file sizes are monitored.The hard disk can be cleaned up without notification. Leaving data here is at the users own risk!

All files must be transferred to the Research Drive of the laboratory or of the CBIA core, allowing a convenient access to the data from any computer on the campus. Once the files are on the R-drive, they must be deleted from the acquisition computer.

The facility is not responsible for data stored on the hard drives nor on the server.

To transfer data from CBIA platforms, users must utilize the CBIA Core Network server.

CBIA Core Network space is to be used only for the transfer/storage of microscopy image files acquired on CBIA platforms. Storage of other files or lab data is not permitted.

Publications (posters or papers) that include data obtained with any  CBIA Core instruments must be acknowledged.

This is important for helping the CBIA Core to leverage funding. In addition, when writing grants, you will be able to show that you have access to a facility that has the required infrastructure and technical expertise to help you address your scientific questions.

Example of acknowledgement: "The authors acknowledge the Cell Biology and Image Acquisition Core (RRID: SCR_021845) funded by the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Natural Sciences and engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Canada Foundation for Innovation.”

We request a copy of the publication in PDF format, so that we can keep track of successful research projects that were accomplished using the Centre.

Please consider the CBIA Core staff as co-authors on publications where they have performed experiments for you or participate actively in your project.
