We would like to congratulate Dr. Smita Pakhale for being recognized on her efforts in pushing forward Canadian legislation for people suffering from Sickle Cell Disease. This historic achievement of global significance, for millions of people suffering from this excruciatingly painful life-limiting disease, affecting the most marginalized people globally!
Since the Bill was introduced by Hon. Senator Megis a couple of years ago, Dr. Pakhale has been consistently providing key clinical issues, and research data for its progress. She was also invited as an expert witness for the Senate Standing Committee hearing on October 3rd, 2025. The Senate’s passing of Bill S-201 addresses the inequities of people living with sickle cell disease and will now move forward to the House of Commons.
