Join the University of Ottawa’s French debate team and proudly represent uOttawa at the prestigious Interuniversity French-Language Debate Competition in The Hague 2026, organized by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie and the Corax Foundation.

This is the most prestigious French-language debate competition in the world, bringing together students from across the globe. And this year, the University of Ottawa is part of it!

If you have a quick wit and want to sharpen your eloquence, argumentation, and critical thinking skills—this is your chance!

You’ll have the opportunity to debate online against teams from Geneva, Dakar, Montreal, Alexandria, and many more, leading up to a hybrid grand finale in The Hague!

And the best part? It’s completely free!

How to Apply

To join uOttawa’s French-language debate team, please email the Département de français at Dir.Francais@uOttawa.ca and include the following information:

  • Full name
  • Program of study at uOttawa
  • Year of study
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A motivation letter explaining why you wish to participate

Application deadline

November 30

Selected students will meet regularly and receive coaching in the art of debate. The team will proudly represent the University of Ottawa at the Hague Inter-University French Debate Tournament.

Tournament Timeline

  • December: Team selection
  • January: Debate workshops
  • February–March: Online opening ceremony and start of debates against other universities
  • April: Online networking events
  • May–June: Semi-finals, potential visit to The Hague, finals, awards ceremony, and reception
