Professor Kenny can talk about the effects of elevated temperatures on human health and the proactive steps individuals can take, such as staying well-hydrated and refraining from prolonged outdoor activities. This includes highlighting the significance of keeping a close eye on at-risk groups like senior citizens and children during periods of extreme heatwaves.

Professor Lavigne recently contributed to international research published in Plos Medicine which examined heatwave-related mortality. Researchers found between 1990 and 2019:
- Approximately 150,000 deaths per year on average can be attributed to heat waves on a global scale.
- In Canada, about 130 deaths per year on average can be attributed to heat waves.
- An 8% increase in deaths attributed to heat waves have increased for each decade.
