Emily Regan Wills (English and French)

Associate Professor, School of Political Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences

Professor Wills' research research interests include transnationalism and everyday politics.

"Mamdani’s election is at the convergence of a number of forces in New York politics: the role of immigrants and their children in electoral politics, the slow-and-steady organizing of DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) chapters and their place in the Democratic Party, the post-Me Too unwillingness to put Andrew Cuomo in office, and the general problems of affordability. Coupled with a strong turn away from Trump’s Republican Party in all of last night’s elections nationwide, it paints a picture of how politics might develop, not only in heavily democratic areas like New York City, but across the country."
