Stuart Fogel
The Faculty of Social Sciences is proud to announce that Professor Stuart Fogel, from the School of Psychology, has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Weston Foundation in support of his research on dementia and sleep.

Professor Fogel’s work focuses on understanding how sleep-related processes can be leveraged to support memory and cognition in people living with neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging, including dementia. By examining the critical role of sleep in brain health, this research aims to open new therapeutic avenues for patients and caregivers alike.

“Our research aims to provide caregivers with new therapeutic tools by precisely targeting sleep-related processes that are known to support memory and cognition in neurodegenerative diseases of aging,” explains Professor Fogel. “This funding enables us to establish proof-of-concept for the use of natural health products to enhance sleep and improve overnight memory consolidation and cognitive outcomes.”

The Weston Foundation grant will allow Professor Fogel and his team to advance innovative, evidence-based approaches that could significantly improve quality of life for individuals affected by dementia, while also offering practical, non-invasive interventions to support caregivers.

This funding recognition highlights the impact and importance of research conducted within the School of Psychology’s Sleep Research Laboratory and underscores the Faculty’s commitment to advancing knowledge that addresses pressing health and societal challenges.
