A brand new residence will soon provide hundreds of students with a state-of-the-art home. In September 2018, more than 500 students will move into the coed Annex residence close to campus.
“We’re really excited about this new space,” said Michel Guilbeault, associate vice-president, student services. “The increased capacity will help us better meet the needs of upper-year students.”
The new residence, at Laurier and Friel, offers furnished accommodations in units of one to five bedrooms. Each bedroom will have a double bed and en suite bathroom, and every unit will have laundry facilities and a flat-screen TV. Students will have access to a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances.
Monthly rates will cover utilities, including high-speed Wi-Fi, and access to all facilities. Common areas include a fireplace lounge, fitness centre and games room, group and quiet study spaces, and terrace with community BBQ. There will be retail space on the main floor, interior bike parking, plus underground parking available for an additional fee.
With the opening of the new residence, uOttawa will have increased the number of residence spaces for students from 2,900 to 4,700 since 2014. Guilbeault believes the Annex residence will both attract new students and help retain others who like the idea of living in a uOttawa-managed residence for their entire time at the university.
