The University of Ottawa is proud to be once again recognized nationally for workplace health and safety. Whether it’s innovative communications or the leadership of dedicated professionals, the University continues to foster a culture where safety is at the forefront of everything we do.

It is with great pride that we share the news of three national workplace safety awards:

OHS Honours Gold award - Best Safety Communications Program

The University of Ottawa has reached a new milestone in its safety journey, receiving the gold award for best safety communications from OHS Canada. After two consecutive years receiving silver, the University’s Health, Safety and Environmental Management (HSE) team reached the top rung this year, recognition of the quality and impact of its safety outreach.

Through campus-wide campaigns and targeted awareness initiatives, the HSE team ensures that safety messages are accessible, engaging and inclusive of all members of the community. This gold award reflects its dedication to building a strong safety culture where students, faculty and staff are informed, prepared and supported. It’s a celebration of the people and ideas that keep safety front and centre at uOttawa.

OHS Honours - Top 25 Under 40

In addition to this collective recognition, the University is proud to celebrate Chantal Aubut, health and safety specialist, who was named one of OHS Canada’s Top 25 Under 40 for 2025.

Chantal, who’s been with uOttawa for eight years, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment through projects ranging from updating laboratory design and construction guidelines to leading the evolution of uOttawa’s chemical inventory system. Chantal also achieved a major milestone this year by completing her CRST certification, the first at uOttawa to do so. Her dedication, expertise and collaborative approach have made her an invaluable contributor to the University’s safety culture.
