Every Convocation gives us a look at the range of lived experiences, the amount of work accomplished and the determination necessary to pursue university studies.

Diane worked in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa for nearly 30 years. She was an academic assistant at the School of Political Studies from 2007 to 2014. We will miss her engaging personality, her humour, and her joie de vivre.

Every student has a story to tell. As convocation approaches, we’re looking at the personal journeys of a few of the incredible students who are members of the Class of 2024.

As an educator, policy analyst, and community volunteer, Renee St. Germain brings a richness of passion and perspective to the many roles she holds.

Inclusion researcher Virginie Abat-Roy (PhD ’24) says ableism (the discrimination of those with disabilities) is a daily obstacle for people with assistance dogs. “It’s shocking to hear some of the judgemental things people say to those who live with handicaps," she explains.

"While this internship has given me the opportunity to implement my skills outside of an office on Sparks Street, I believe I am learning more than I could ever give here. Not only about professional dynamics, but about a different way of life."
