Eligibility:
All regular professors in the Faculty of Social Sciences. Academic unit chairs and vice-deans are excluded.
Nomination process:
Candidates for the Excellence in Teaching Award must be nominated by at least one professor from within the Faculty of Social Sciences, and their nomination supported by the Chair or Director of the candidate's unit. Nominations should include:
- A letter of recommendation from the chair or director
- A description of the candidate's academic contribution
- If possible, one or more letters of endorsement from students and/or colleagues
- A copy of teaching and course evaluations
- A copy of your CV
Nominations must be submitted to the Dean by email to DoyenFSSDean@uOttawa.ca by March 15. If no candidates are submitted, the Dean and Vice-Deans will propose nominations.
Selection process:
The selection committee will be chaired by the Dean and composed of the members of the Faculty Teaching Personnel Committee (FTPC).
Selection criteria:
The Faculty of Social Sciences' Excellence in Teaching Award is granted to a member of the teaching staff, nominated by his or her peers, who has demonstrated outstanding performance in his or her teaching, in particular in the development of innovative teaching material, courses, and programs of study, and for his or her interpersonal skills.
Award:
At the Dean's Brunch, the recipient will receive a commemorative plaque as well as a research assistantship and the amount of $2,500 in research funding. Every year, the name of the recipient will be added to the Faculty's commemorative plaque to be displayed permanently.
