These games are more than just a competition — they’re a unique experience that immerses students in the world of politics through simulations, real-world challenges and inspiring encounters.
Three months of intensive preparation
Members of the uOttawa delegation devoted three months to intensive professional preparation.
As part of that preparation, they met with several political actors:
- For the political marketing and communications challenge, a member of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s election campaign staff stopped by to share his experience working in communications.
- For the political journalism challenge, delegates visited the Ottawa–Gatineau office of Radio-Canada and chatted with journalists to get a better understanding of the reality on the ground.
- For the politics in action simulation, focused on the Canadian federal election, the uOttawa delegates happened to be representing the New Democratic Party (NDP). So they went to see MP Alexandre Boulerice at his office to help them stay true to the party’s positions and values.
- For the government relations challenge, delegates got to speak with a senior adviser on government and diplomatic affairs who previously served as issues manager and regional adviser for Quebec in the Minister’s Office at Indigenous Services Canada.
The delegation also received support from uOttawa professors such as Benjamin Ferland, who provided guidance to the political marketing team.
Results we can be proud of
- Government relations: Third place
- Political journalism: fourth place and jury’s choice, with jury members describing our two-person team as a “quiet powerhouse”
- Politics in action: Fourth place
- Political marketing (new challenge): Fifth place
- Quiz: Seventh place and social award for team spirit, respect and positive energy
In the overall standings, uOttawa finished sixth.
An experience to remember
Beyond the results and the hard work that went into them, the delegates returned with a rewarding experience under their belts, along with lots of new friends and professional contacts. The next generation of politics is here!
Thanks to the uOttawa Faculty of Social Sciences for its invaluable support. This year’s Jeux de la science politique was one for the memory books!
