Dr. Geoff McCarney is Executive Director of the Smart Prosperity Institute and Director of the Institute of the Environment at the University of Ottawa, where he also serves as Associate Professor of Environment and Development in the School of International Development and Global Studies. Dr. McCarney brings more than a decade of experience leading large interdisciplinary research teams, multi-stakeholder partnerships and major grants focused on the environment-economy nexus. He specializes in policy-oriented research and knowledge mobilization in environmental, natural resource and development economics. His work has supported more than 200 research projects and mobilized findings to inform federal climate and economic policy to accelerate Canada’s transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy. He holds a PhD in Sustainable Development (economics and climate science) from Columbia University.
