About the Event
The notion of the “Canadian municipal model” refers to a set of interrelated characteristics, such as the absence of political parties and the predominance of land-based governance, which are often used to describe the specificity of municipal politics in Canada.
Recent research suggests that these characteristics are gradually eroding in contemporary Canadian cities. Through a study covering a quarter century of municipal politics (2002–2026), this presentation seeks to analyze the trajectory and evolution of the different characteristics of the Canadian municipal model over time, using the case of Gatineau.
