In March 2025, Michael Joined ARCH Disability Law Centre as Senior Counsel. ARCH is a speciality legal Clinic with a long history of providing legal advice and service to low-income persons with Disabilities. He is a respected leader in disability rights advocacy and law reform in Ontario, across Canada and on the international stage.
Over his 40-year career, Michael Gottheil has served as Senior Counsel, tribunal chair, adjudicator, mediator, educator, litigator, and public and private sector executive. He has contributed to the rights of Persons with Disabilities, the administration of justice, the legal profession and his community with intelligence, integrity, innovation, compassion and determination. He has always strived to work collaboratively across interests to advance the principles of equity, fairness, inclusion and dignity for all persons. Mr. Gottheil has met the challenges of vision and hearing loss by learning new skills and embracing new tools. His disability, along with his experience and humanity have led him to reflect deeply on what it means to be normal, to be tolerant and to be tolerated, to have privilege and agency, to be included or not, and how these may change over time and circumstance.
