Other programs are available to support research infrastructure and equipment at the University of Ottawa.

OVPRI strategic reserve — Support for stand-alone equipment

The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation’s strategic reserve can partially fund the operation and maintenance costs of stand-alone CFI-funded equipment (with the exception of core facilities). This support is not intended to cover all operating and maintenance costs, but rather to supplement the support already provided by the faculties and researchers.

The maximum funding available is $10,000 per application.

Eligible costs include:

  • Extended warranties and/or service contracts not included with purchase
  • Extensions of warranty coverage and software licences
  • Maintenance and repairs
  • Spare parts
  • Replacement of a CFI-funded infrastructure item in need of repair, provided that the cost of the replacement is less than the cost of the repair (the new equipment must have similar features)

There are no longer any fixed application deadlines. Applications are accepted at any time of the year. For more information, please see the guidelines for the program.

Support for University of Ottawa core facilities

This program is for established, recognized core facilities at the University of Ottawa. Annual internal funding covers a portion of the costs associated with managing eligible facilities.

By encouraging the creation of new core facilities and ensuring first-rate management and maintenance of highly sophisticated equipment, this program promotes more efficient use of the University’s limited resources. Amounts granted vary by demonstrated needs.

Contact our team for more information on creating new core facilities, as well as questions about the upcoming competition and application mechanisms for core facility support.

Additional programs

As a member of the Strategic Projects Management Group (SPMG), our team is ideally positioned to manage and coordinate research projects that rely on major research infrastructure.

For example, we can coordinate projects funded by Ontario Genomics, the Large Scale Applied Research Project (LSARP) competition, the New Frontiers in Research Fund or the Canada First Research Excellence Fund.
