Alums share Olympic dream

Three uOttawa graduates will compete for Canada in PyeongChang.

Three uOttawa graduates poised to compete for Canada at the PyeongChang Winter Games share one Olympic dream. Curlers Lisa Weagle (BA ’08) and Rachel Homan (BSc ’11) and hockey player Lauriane Rougeau (MHK ’16) will be up against the world’s best in South Korea, from February 9 to 25, 2018.

In addition, five other alumni and a PhD candidate are in South Korea to support the athletes:

  • Emma Bédard (BA ’11) of CBC Toronto will be working in communications while in PyeongChang.
  • Perry Dellelce (LLB ’90), a member of uOttawa’s Board of Governors, is chair of the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
  • Sonia Gungah (BSocSc ’15) is an assistant with the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
  • Adam Kingsbury, PhD candidate in sport psychology, is head coach of the women’s curling team.
  • Kim Thompson (PhD ’10), a part-time human kinetics professor at uOttawa, is the mental health consultant for the women’s ice hockey team.
  • Dirk Van Wijk (BCom ’84), a former member of the Canadian cross-country ski team, is helping to prepare the Olympic cross-country ski venue.
