The University of Ottawa has placed 145th in the world in the 2021 Times Higher Education ranking, a slight drop compared to its 141st spot the previous year. This consolidates uOttawa’s reputation as a world-class university, even though 129 institutions were added to the ranking this year.

Our institution stands in the top 25th percentile in four of the five categories used by Times Higher Education to measure excellence, namely teaching, research, citations (scientific journal and media), and international outlook.

“Our ranking in international outlook jumped 13 points this year, due to the hiring of several staff members from abroad and the influx of international students,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Jacques Frémont. “A full measure of the credit goes to our researchers, who are constantly pushing the boundaries of knowledge, making revolutionary discoveries, and proposing innovative ideas.”

Moreover, the University has solidified its position as the seventh best Canadian university for the fourth consecutive year.

The University of Ottawa pursues its efforts to apply the knowledge generated by its research in areas of social and economic significance by facilitating international collaboration and multidisciplinary partnerships, investing in research infrastructure and talent, encouraging participation from various communities with common interests, and promoting and celebrating equity, diversity and inclusion in our approach to research.
