The University of Ottawa will be the first Ontario university to open its own COVID-19 assessment centre dedicated to its on-campus community.
The new testing centre is one of a series of measures that the University of Ottawa has taken to ensure the health and safety of its campus population as it prepares to resume on-campus academic and research activities this fall.
“Having an on-campus testing facility will support people working and learning on campus and will ensure they have all the tools and resources they need to stay safe,” says University of Ottawa President Jacques Frémont.
In September, uOttawa will welcome back two thirds of its researchers, approximately 5,000 students who are enrolled in courses that have in-person learning requirements, as well as a small number of Faculty members and staff.
“Once the centre is up and running at full capacity, the hope is that the uOttawa assessment centre will also help lighten the load carried by other testing facilities in the city,” says Frémont.
Easy-to-access location
Until further notice, uOttawa’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre will only be open to students, staff and faculty members of the University. It will be located within Block D at 200 Lees Avenue, which is easily accessed by foot, bike or by using light rail. Free parking will also be available to visitors.
Opening Date and times
The centre is projected to open in early September and will be open for six months with a possible extension depending on community need. The Assessment Centre will receive clients Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Those using uOttawa’s testing facility will be required to book an appointment online in advance. In the first few weeks, testing will be limited to 50 people per day.
