Deadlines at a glance
Overview
Status: Open
The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) invites academic researchers to submit nominations, through their respective faculties, in all of the University’s strategic areas of research in order to select the holder of the University of Ottawa’s Senghor Chair in Francophonie–Collège des chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone (CCRMF).
The objectives of the CRMF program are:
- To uphold and strengthen the University of Ottawa’s tradition of excellence in research on the Francophonie in three specific geographical areas: Ontario, the rest of Canada and around the world
- To disseminate research on the Francophonie that aligns with the University’s strategic areas of research
- To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in research on the Francophonie
- To foster the emergence and inclusion of new scholars conducting research on the Francophonie, both locally and beyond, at every level of study (master’s/PhD/postdoc students, interns, researchers, faculty)
- To ensure the internal and external visibility of the chairs’ research and activities, including through knowledge mobilization
Since this chair will be a member of the Réseau international des Chaires Senghor (RICS), the chairholder will be responsible for:
- Forging connections and fostering communication and dialogue between the CCRMF and the RICS
- Participating in and helping to organize RICS activities
- Contributing to the RICS’s governance
- Supporting the RICS’s objectives and mandates. See the RICS website for more information.
We welcome research on any subject related to the missions of the CCRMF and the RICS, in any discipline and in any of the three geographical areas covered by the CCRMF (Ontario, rest of Canada and international Francophonie). Projects must:
- Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion and diversity through a commitment to growing the diversity of our chairholders in the four designated groups
- Be clearly related to the University’s strategic areas of research
The 2025 call for nominations seeks to fund a research chair (Senghor) with the CCRMF for a five-year term (renewable once for a second five-year period).
The chair’s research activities:
- will align with the mandate of the chosen federal agency (NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR)
- will be in line with one or more of the University’s strategic areas of research
- will promote a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity and excellence in research at the University of Ottawa, in accordance with the EDI Action Plan for Research
In their applications, nominees will specify the Francophone geographical area (Ontario, rest of Canada or international Francophonie), the federal agency, and the University’s strategic area of research with which their research project will be most closely aligned.
Once they have completed their selection process, faculties may submit two nominations for consideration by the program steering committee. The University of Ottawa Research Chairs Evaluation Committee (RCEC) will make a final decision.
