Overview

Status: Open

The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) invites uOttawa researchers to submit nominations, through their respective faculties, in all of the University’s strategic areas of research, in order to select the holder of an International Francophonie Research Chair – Chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone program (CRMF) at the University of Ottawa.

CRMF goals

  • To uphold and strengthen the University of Ottawa’s tradition of excellence in research on the Francophonie in three specific geographical areas: in Ontario, across Canada and around the world
  • To disseminate research on the Francophonie that aligns with the University’s strategic areas of research
  • To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in research on the Francophonie
  • To foster the emergence and inclusion of new scholars conducting research on the Francophonie, both locally and beyond, at every level of study (master’s/PhD/postdoc students, interns, researchers, faculty)
  • To ensure the internal and external visibility of the chairs’ research and activities, including through knowledge mobilization

Field

The CRMF comprises four international Francophonie research chairs, including the International Francophonie Research Chair on Political Aspirations and Movements in Francophone Africa; the International Francophonie Research Chair on Digital Health Technologies; and the International Francophonie Research Chair on Cultural Heritage Policies. The CRMF seeks to endow a chair in a complementary field and to open up to new fields of research.

In essence, the field is open, and we expect that nominees will propose an innovative research program to help us better understand the issues facing the Francophone world on the international stage.

The proposed research program must:

  • align with the mandate of the chosen federal agency (NSERC, CIHR or SSHRC)
  • align with one or more of the University’s strategic areas of research
  • foster a culture of excellence, inclusion and diversity by committing to improve the diversity of our chairholders in the four designated groups

Each faculty will be allowed to submit two nominations. The program steering committee will assess the nominations and submit recommendations to the University of Ottawa Research Chairs Evaluation Committee (RCEC), which will make a final decision.

Eligibility criteria and mandate

Teaching release

CRMF program chairholders may be eligible for teaching release of a single one-term course (two or three credits) per year, as negotiated with the dean of the Faculty.

End of term

The University will allow two additional years from the end date of the chair’s term in order to expend any residual funds. No further extensions will be granted.
