Description

As environmental crises increasingly threaten the planet’s habitability, how can we envision sustainable, equitable, and just urban living? How can we reconcile the dynamics of global capital with the realities of livability in cities? How can we conceptualize the field and the research that help illuminate the complex links between global urbanization, environmental transformations, and everyday urban life? What key issues must be addressed to move beyond mere observation and propose interdisciplinary solutions?

To explore these questions, we bring together Canadian and international researchers to reflect on the future of habitability in 21st-century cities—whose futures are deeply shaped by the ways we choose to live and by how we understand the relationship between planetary urbanization and environmental disruption.
