A visiting research student with a Canadian work permit whose research stay will be at least six months may be eligible for RAMQ. Please note that the registration process with RAMQ can be lengthy, often taking several months. Visit the RAMQ website to confirm your eligibility.

No, only the official VRS Invitation Letter template is accepted.
How do I access the official VRS Invitation Letter template?
A link to the VRS Invitation Letter can be found under Step 3 of the Procedure for Visiting Research Students and can only be accessed by the University of Ottawa supervisor via their Virtuo account.
What student services can I access while at the University of Ottawa? Visiting research students have access to the library, fitness facilities, student clubs, support groups, and more. All available services can be found under Step 7 of the Procedure for Visiting Research Students.
Am I eligible for the U-Pass?
No, visiting research students are ineligible for the U-Pass.
Do I need to pay tuition for my research stay?
No, tuition fees are not required. All visiting research students must pay a one-time application fee as explained under Step 3 of the Procedure for Visiting Research Students.
Are there any scholarships from University of Ottawa that I can get for my stay?
No, there are no scholarships available for visiting research students, although your host supervisor per their discretion may provide you with a stipend.
What type of proof do you need for my finances?
All visiting research students are required to provide proof of financial support for the stay in Canada. This can include, but is not limited to, award letters for scholarships, letters from home institution, personal and/or parental bank statements showing minimum three months savings, property and/or automotive ownership and other fixed assets. Note that it is to the University of Ottawa’s discretion whether to accept the financial proof provided as adequate for the proposed research stay.
Can I get a letter confirming my stay at uOttawa?
If you require official proof of your complete stay, you can obtain your official transcript through your uoZone account using your student credentials or contact infoserv@uottawa.ca
