Meet one of Our Newest Members of the BHI Who is Advancing Diagnosis and Discovery in Rare Neuromuscular and Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Kiran Polavarapu
Dr. Kiran Polavarapu joins the CHEO Research Institute and the Brain-Heart Interconnectome through the Academic Recruitment Program.

With his combined work in neuromuscular genetics, deep clinical phenotyping, and advanced genomic and bioinformatic analysis, Dr. Polavarapu, a genomics and clinical bioinformatics Scientist at the CHEO Research Institute and the BHI, is seeking to improve diagnostic yield, enable novel gene discovery, and develop open-source variant interpretation workflows for inherited neuromuscular disorders, including multisystem brain-heart-muscle phenotypes.

Dr. Polavarapu’s research aims to accelerate answers for families with rare diseases by uniting clinical insight with advanced genomic and bioinformatic approaches—bringing new avenues for discovery and diagnosis.
