The Metadata Creation team, part of the Library's Metadata and Cataloging team, was recognized for its excellence in Francophonie at the 2025 University of Ottawa President's Awards Gala and End of Year Celebration.
The team received the President's Award for Best Practices in Francophonie and French Language Services. This distinction highlights their profound, systemic, and collaborative approach, which improved the discovery of French materials not only for the uOttawa community, but also across Ontario.
The team played a pivotal role in implementing the new consortium-wide language policy. By sharing their workflows and expertise, they enabled the policy’s successful adoption, creating systemic change for the Francophone community across the province.
Their daily commitment to quality is remarkable. They navigate complex international standards, adapting French records to make them fully discoverable for our community. This expert work led to the creation of over 6,700 high-quality French records this past year alone.
Through their leadership in policy change, their technical excellence, and their willingness to share their knowledge, the Metadata Creation team has proven to be a powerful force for equitable access to French-language knowledge. Their work is critical and foundational, yet often invisible. They are truly deserving of this recognition!
Congratulations!
