MA in Economics

Influence national and international priorities with cutting-edge research

Adapted to contemporary trends and the needs of the labour market, the program gives you the opportunity to explore lesser-known alternative approaches to economics while also acquiring a thorough knowledge of traditional methods. The Department follows the University of Ottawa’s four Strategic Areas of Development in Research: Canada and the World, Health, e-Society and Molecular and Environmental Sciences. The Department's 26 full-time professors and many part-time professors are specialists in one or more fields of expertise, some being known internationally. The MA program has been newly designed to allow for interested students to transfer and complete a PhD in Economics.

Three paths lead to a master's degree in Economics.

Students enrolled in the MA program may be allowed to fast-track to the PhD program without being required to complete the Master's program. For additional information, please consult the “Admission Requirements" section of the PhD program.

PhD in Economics

The Ph.D. program is offered jointly with Carleton University.  The vast majority of Ph.D. courses are taught in English, but students may write and defend their thesis in English or French.

The PhD program offers specialization for intensive study and thesis research in:
