Graduate studies at the Institute

Pursue a PhD, a Master's, or graduate studies in the Collaborative Program in Feminist and Gender Studies at the Master's level, which aims to combine advanced disciplinary studies with analyses from a feminist perspective.

Graduate programs

MA (with or without thesis) in Feminist and Gender Studies

An MA in Feminist and Gender Studies allows students to gain expertise in dynamic new interdisciplinary fields like transnational feminism, queer and antiracist theories, masculinities, and (dis)ability and trans studies. Students can participate in seminars and community events where diversity and collaborative activism are encouraged and valued, and also gain specialized knowledge and skills that are invaluable in today’s job market. Graduate students in our programs have the opportunity to work with interesting and engaging professors who are well-known experts in their fields. Many of our graduates have gone on to work in a wide variety of fulfilling jobs in academic, government, professional, nonprofit and other organizations.

Collaborative program in Feminist and Gender Studies at the master's level

The Collaborative Program in Feminist and Gender's Studies at the Master's level is designed for students from selected disciplines in the Arts, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Social Sciences Faculties and Counselling and Spirituality (Saint Paul University) who have an interest in Feminist and Gender Studies.

PhD in Feminist and Gender Studies

A PhD in Feminist and Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa allows students to gain high-level expertise in dynamic new interdisciplinary fields like transnational feminism, queer and antiracist theories, masculinities, and (dis)ability and trans studies. A word from our Associate Director

Welcome to graduate study at the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies. We are very excited to have you join our program and wish you the best for your studies in the coming year. Please consult this handbook for all of the contact information, policies, forms and deadlines that you’ll need to consult to successfully complete your program.

In addition to the information contained in this handbook, you are always welcome to come to speak with the Director of Graduate Studies and the Operations Coordinator who will be happy to answer any questions that you have. We would also encourage you to join the student association and attend talks at the Institute so that you can enjoy the broader intellectual community that the Institute provides for its staff, students and faculty.
