Join us for a public conference organized by the Centre on Governance at the University of Ottawa. This event is set to take place on November 5, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM, featuring esteemed guest speaker Angèle Renaud, a Professor of Management Sciences at the University of Burgundy and part of the CREGO Laboratory.
Steering Sustainability: Reflections and Practices in the Francophone Context
Conference Summary: Sustainability management is rarely the subject of research in management sciences. However, this discipline could play a role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Integrating sustainability issues requires rethinking management control, which is the preferred instrument for translating the business model and strategy to all levels of the organization. Drawing particularly on the French context, Angèle Renaud offers a critical reflection and avenues to try to move beyond the boundaries of a discipline dominated by financial logic. This conference presents (1) an overview of sustainability management systems, which oscillate between dissociation and integration; (2) a study on the changes in the profession of management controller in the face of social and environmental challenges; and (3) suggestions for evolving management training curricula. In doing so, she invites public and private organizations to adopt a strong and integrated model of global performance.
