Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) Excellence Award

The Knowledge Mobilization Excellence Award (KMbE Award) recognizes up to two researchers whose KMb activities have had high impact, beyond the scientific community in innovative ways, engaging knowledge users throughout the research and KMb process.

Overview

These awards recognize the creative and innovative components of knowledge mobilization (KMb) activities and products, as well as the impact of research on knowledge users and their engagement throughout the process.

Knowledge users are defined as those who can use research findings to make informed decisions or otherwise benefit from them. For example:

  • partners or stakeholders (community members, practitioners, patients, etc.)
  • decision-makers (politicians, service managers, etc.)
  • the general public

Categories

The KMb Excellence Award is awarded in two categories:

Priority will be given to research projects that can demonstrate:

  • Evidence of meaningful knowledge users’ engagement throughout the process.
  • Evidence of impacts or change on decisions, public debate, policies, services, practices, or behaviour.

Award Value

The KMb Excellence Award is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Knowledge Exchange Grant. The maximum amount granted is $7,000 per researcher. Funds must be used within one year of being awarded, either to continue the KMb activity recognized by this award, or to support new KMb activities.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

We recognize that equity, diversity and inclusion in Canada’s research sector are essential for excellence, innovation and greater impact. Therefore, we will give special consideration to projects that involve knowledge users from Indigenous, equity-deserving, or marginalized groups.

Deadline

The deadline to submit is March 3, 2025.
