Award for Research Excellence in Francophonie

The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) is committed to fostering a research environment that provides equal opportunities for everyone and that respects and values diversity and inclusion. Thank you for taking this into account when selecting candidates.

Candidates must hold a full-time academic position at the University of Ottawa.

• Each faculty can submit up to two nominations per year.
• A researcher can be nominated in only one OVPRI award category in any year.

• Originality of the research
• Impact (or potential impact) of the research on the francophonie
• Scientific productivity in French or with a research focus on the francophonie
• Funding obtained for the research, including from the Tri-Council
• Research collaborations and partnerships with francophone communities
• Outreach and knowledge mobilization activities related to the francophonie
• Leadership and commitment to the francophonie on campus and in the community
• Supervision and training of students

Each nomination file must include the following:

1. A letter of nomination from the dean of the faculty (English: maximum 1 page; French: maximum 1 ¼ page; on official letterhead and signed).
2. A document prepared by the candidate describing his or her research contributions and their impact on the francophonie (English: maximum 3 pages; French: maximum 3 ½ pages).
3. A curriculum vitae highlighting how prizes and distinctions, publications, invited lectures, grants and contracts, student supervision (present and past; undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, others), presence in the media, and participation to outreach and knowledge mobilization activities contributed to the francophonie. Please clearly indicate leaves and career interruptions in the CV.
4. Two letters of reference (English: maximum 2 pages each; French: maximum 2 ⅓ pages each; on official letterhead and signed) in support of the nomination, accompanied by a short biography for each referee on a separate page. One of the two letters should come from a researcher at an institution with which the nominee has not had any research affiliation* for the past 6 years at the time of submitting the nomination. The other letter may come from an organization in the community or an institution (other than the University of Ottawa) with which the nominee has worked in the past.

*As understood by the definition of “Conflict of Interest” in the Tri-Agency Policies and Guidelines.

Applications are evaluated by a selection committee chaired by the Associate Vice-President, Research Promotion and Development.
