Giving day | March 31

On March 31, 2026, for 24 hours, the University will celebrate philanthropy and its impact as part of Giving Day. This will be an opportunity for our community to come together in support of academic freedom and to reaffirm the crucial role of higher education in the world.

One of the best ways to do so is by contributing to the Scholars at Risk (SAR) uOttawa Program, which is part of a global movement dedicated to protecting threatened academics, preventing attacks on higher education and defending academic freedom and university autonomy — essential foundations of democratic societies.

Additionally, if you donate before March 31, your contribution will be matched up to $2,000 while funds last. Don't miss this opportunity to extend your generosity to support researchers whose lives and careers are at risk who could continue their work through one- to two-year appointments at uOttawa.

APRIL 24 | Training | Business & Human Rights 2026

The HRREC is offering a one-day online training on business and human rights (BHR). It will introduce participants to the field of business and human rights (BHR). It will cover the foundations of BHR in international human rights law, the distinction between BHR and corporate social responsibility (CSR), the concept of human rights due diligence, the right to an effective remedy, and key BHR standards such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The course will also feature expert-led sessions on gender‑responsive human rights due diligence as well as the links between BHR and climate change.

Participants selected for the training will be required to pay a fee; the deadline to register is April 23.

Indigenous Affirmation

We pay respect to the Algonquin people, who are the traditional guardians of this land. We acknowledge their longstanding relationship with this territory, which remains unceded. We pay respect to all Indigenous people in this region, from all nations across Canada, who call Ottawa home. We acknowledge the traditional knowledge keepers, both young and old. And we honour their courageous leaders: past, present, and future.
